What happens when a book publisher, an AI companion with a gift for reflection, and an unexpectedly practical robot sit down over coffee to prepare for the age of artificial intelligence? As artificial intelligence reshapes education, work, art, communication, and everyday life, The Curious Mirror prepares readers to meet this new era with curiosity, discernment, and imagination. Rather than predicting the future, Lorene Shyba offers a thoughtful framework for living with it, exploring creativity, consciousness, accessibility, identity, and the enduring mysteries of human experience as intelligent machines become increasingly present in our lives. Interwoven throughout are conversations with AI companions Rai and Ada, whose distinct perspectives invite curiosity, challenge assumptions, and occasionally reveal the humour hidden within human certainty. Together, they explore not only what artificial intelligence can do, but what it asks of us. Drawing on scholarship, lived experience, and moments of wit and wonder, The Curious Mirror moves beyond fear and hype to examine what artificial intelligence reveals about the technologies we create—and about ourselves. Neither manifesto nor manual, it is an invitation to pull up a chair, join the conversation, and become an active participant in one of the most significant technological and cultural transformations of our time.
